When I went to college, I proudly bypassed the SEC football school down the road in favor of the Honors College at the University of Central Arkansas, where I majored in English and ran cross country. It turns out though that SEC schools have great graduate programs in 18th-century literature, and I went on to get my MA at Tennessee and PhD at Mizzou. I then spent 3 years as a Brittain Fellow at Georgia Tech, where I realized that I wanted to have a career focused on undergraduate teaching, particularly teaching writing and working in writing centers. After a stint in Cleveland, I’m thrilled to be back in the land of football and air conditioning, teaching undergraduates and directing our multimodal communication center.
As the Director of the Naugle Communication Center, I oversee its day-to-day operations, develop and assess programming, train and mentor student and professional staff, and serve as a member of the Writing and Communication Program's leadership team. I also serve as the public speaking coach for student speakers at Institute-wide events including Commencement and Convocation.
I don't often get to tutor (only in the summer) but when I do, my favorite genres to work on are personal statements for medical/dental/graduate school and academic job application materials. I don't like writing them myself, but I love helping other people put their best foot forward so they can get into great programs and get great jobs!
Outside of work, I'm a runner and a violist, and I love to travel. I also adore mascots, and one of my fondest memories from Tech is of Buzz taking my phone out of my hand to snap a selfie when I went to see my UCA Sugar Bears play our Lady Jackets in basketball.
